Random Observation/Comment #841: I’m already living the retired life dream of trying new things and looking forward to weekdays more than weekends.
Why this List?
AI is going to take everything over so we might as well look into more personal experiences. Let’s all try new things! The “Try Guy” YouTube binge watching has been quite inspiring. This list was fun to write as we tend to get stuck in a mundane funk that we forget there’s so many little hobbies we can pursue.
In order to say I've done a bunch of random cool stuff, I will try to do all of these things and do an Instagram post about them. At the end of the challenge, I’ll just share a thread of the photographic or video evidence.
Try the menu of a delicious restaurant - I would like to eat everything at Neko Ramen. Why Neko? I love Japanese comfort food. This is also a reasonably small menu with 6 Ramens, 3 Rice Bowls, and 12 Appetizers. I wouldn't do this all at once, but I think if I go once a week, I should be done in 9 weeks. I'll add photos in the Google review and take 2 second videos of each dish to make a shorts/reel mash-up later on.
Do a drunk vs high trivia contest - I probably wouldn't record this. Seems like a fun thing to do with friends. I’ll share the trivia questions and funny answers.
Do an obstacle course - I don't want one that's actually hard and requires upper body strength. I just want one of those fun kid ones to run through with Evie as well. Honestly, I may just make this.
Complete an improbable trick shot - I'd like to record myself with a go-pro or camera footage trying out a shot that is going to be pure luck. I think something with throwing a ping pong ball, throwing card, or doing a bottle flip. I'd add a timer and do a short video. I am actually more excited about the reaction of making a shot.
Bake a hidden cake of something cool - While I don't bake, I do like being artistic. I'm thinking it'd be fun to make an edible table tennis racket.
Try a cannabis meal experience - I've found a few suggestion for chefs that help with curating this. I'd take photos of the meals with increasingly bad quality.
Take a glass blowing class - I suspect this will be very hot and kinda cool. A vase for holding flowers? This is a “Come Play with Fire” workshop.
Take a pottery making class - I would love to make a mug that looks like a cat. Cat mug! The DIY studio Ceramics in the City can be a fun date night.
Take a furniture making class - I took shop classes in high school and absolutely loved it. I really want to make a new cutting board. There’s a bar called “Upstairs Circus” that supposedly have some great DIY workshops. The “pick your project” shows a Butcher Board and Stone Serving Tray that might be fun.
Making cheese class - I don't think it's that hard to make cheese, but I could be wrong. I'll look for an Airbnb experience or something with a group. The Art of the Cheese is a class out of Longmont. They seem to sell out a few weeks in advance.
Make a video with 1000 views - Hopefully some of these ideas will yield some videos that will get a few views. I will consider doing a summary video of these experiences.
Find something I've never eaten before - This is going to be a hard one since I'm an extremely adventurous eater. I had suggested the rocky mountain oysters (bull testicles) because I've never had it and I'm in Colorado, but Vinessa said she wouldn’t kiss me for a week. Since I’ll be traveling to Switzerland, Portugal, and England in May, I’ll keep a lookout for creative things.
Practice a magic trick and perform it as a short - I will learn a cool card trick. I have 2 card tricks up my sleeve if I need to break them out. I’m also okay with doing some pen flipping tricks.
Create a mini documentary about writing lists of 30 - This is a fun activity for me because the directing and vision portion of this challenge is exactly what we'll be able to do in the future with Sora and other advanced video generation platform. I’ll write out a series of director angles.
Attend a silent retreat - I may secretly love this. It doesn’t even need to be a full day. Maybe I’ll just leave my phone at home and go walk in the park for 3 hours.
Perform a song - I do want to record myself singing this lullaby song for Evie. I will also think about performing a beatbox routine.
Take a cold plunge - I did the polar bear swim in Coney Island, but I think an ice-specific cold plunge would be crazy. Let's do it in the summer and let me include some crazy neighbors.
Beekeeping workshop - Bees? I have a minor fear of getting stung by bees. This class could be miserable. I plan to learn a bit more about honey farming because bees are awesome.
Survival skill workshop - What skills, you ask? Basic CPR and EMT emergency would be good to have certifications. Some additional basic knots and fire starter outdoor courses would also be cool.
Indoor skydiving - I may replace this one with something less scary. A part of me would rather do hang gliding or paragliding again. The skydiving I did in my 20s was definitely a one-time thing.
Draw an ultra realistic photo - There's a technique for beginners to split the canvas into sections. I'm still thinking about the medium. Ideally this is something I can frame and put in the basement.
Sew something useful - I used to know how to sew/knit/crochet. It'd be nice to pick it up again and make a simple pot holder with Evie.
Try an escape room - I have never done an in-person escape room. I feel like this should be a team building event. Maybe a Wan family bonding event.
Try archery with an experienced archer - There’s an archery course in the nearby park. I also just found this “Archery Games” family-friendly archery dodgeball event. This would be a first for me.
Home brew some sake - It's been a long time since I've done this. If you know me, you know I’ll do a bunch of a research and come up with a fun way of doing this. I will likely make some salmon sushi too.
Take a cool drone video - Firstly, I need to buy a cool drone and second I will need to learn to fly it well enough to make a cool video. Although I agree we probably won't need this because AI can generate flying drone video pretty easily, it’s fun exploring a new toy with Evie.
Create a vertical garden - There could be some fun stuff to build here to support the vertical farming. I can make here and learn from some YouTube videos.
Host a pop-up sushi party - I’m doing some testing at the moment with my sushi rice and nori combinations. I want to do more sushi lunches with spam, salmon, avocado, and tamago (egg). Sounds pretty fun.
Do a handstand - I think I’ve put this goal on many challenges. I might swap this out, but I still like including it for the intention of building more balanced strength.
Build and program a robot - I used to build robots. I have plans for a new one that will be a super fun project. I will think of what purpose this robot serves. It might just be a camera that looks at NFTs and describes them to me.
